The APELSO Adult ECMO Training Course 2026 is a designed for clinicians with novice to intermediate experience in ECMO who wish to strengthen both their theoretical understanding and practical competency. The course integrates didactic lectures, hands-on workshops, and high-fidelity simulation to create an immersive learning environment that builds confidence in managing adult ECMO cases. Participants will progress through essential concepts including circuit components, patient selection, troubleshooting, and multidisciplinary team communication, guided by experienced faculty from across the Asia-Pacific region. The curriculum is aligned with and fulfills the ELSO E-AEC Level 1–2 requirements.

This two-day hands-on simulation course, hosted at Houston Methodist Hospital in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center, is designed in alignment with ELSO guidelines and incorporates scenario-based learning and interactive discussions. Tailored for MDs, RNs, RTs, NPs, PAs, and subspecialty fellows, the course is ideal for participants with a foundational understanding of ECMO physiology or those who have completed the ELSO ECMO Fundamentals online course (recommended prerequisite). Utilizing high-fidelity simulation, this immersive program will guide learners through ECMO indications and contraindications, circuit components and their functions, as well as ECMO circuit management and troubleshooting. In-person attendance is required. Space is limited. Participants will also experience the dynamic environment of Houston—a vibrant, cosmopolitan city known for the Johnson Space Center, global cuisine, and its reputation as the culinary and cultural capital of the South. Prerequisite: Completion of ELSO online modules.

The 2027 ECMO Symposium: Advancing Excellence in Extracorporeal Life Support is a one-day event and will convene multidisciplinary experts to address emerging evidence, evolving technologies, and systems-based strategies influencing contemporary VA and VV ECMO practice. As the Inova ECMO program continues to mature as a national referral center with international recognition for excellence, educational needs have shifted from foundational management toward advanced clinical decision making, quality optimization, and regional systems integration. This activity is designed for physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, perfusionists, respiratory therapists, and allied health professionals involved in adult and pediatric ECMO care. Content will focus on advanced management strategies, complication mitigation, ECPR systems design, post ECMO recovery, and quality benchmarking aligned with national standards. Building upon prior symposia that emphasized regional standardization, this program aims to enhance multidisciplinary coordination, refine referral practices, and improve patient outcomes across the continuum of extracorporeal support.
